Toby’s Story

Toby didn’t know his dad was hitting his mum. He knew they were argued all the time and his mum sometimes screamed but he only realised the full extent when him and his mum moved into a refuge to get away from the abuse. At first Toby found it really hard when he had to gather all his things and leave the house. He also found it difficult starting a new school too but in the end he decided it was worth it as it meant he and his mum were safe.

Toby and his mum stayed in refuge for a while until they were able to be re-housed somewhere safe away from the abuse. Toby has a new home now and new friends from school but most importantly he doesn’t have to worry about his mum crying or being hit. He doesn’t have to be afraid any more.
